Islanders Bank Earns High Marks and Big Rebate for Energy Efficiency Upgrades

OPALCO presented Islanders Bank with a check for $10,775 for the commercial lighting upgrades the bank completed at all three branches: San Juan, Orcas and Lopez. OPALCO’s Energy Services Specialist, Elisa Howard, presented the big rebate check to Brad Williamson, CEO, and Ray Adams, Project Manager and Technical Services, at Islanders Bank on May 28th.

The three bank branches upgraded nearly 300 lighting fixtures, replacing incandescent bulbs with high-efficiency LEDs, and T-12 fluorescent bulbs with energy-saving T-8 bulbs with efficient new ballasts. Some fixtures were equipped with occupancy sensors for further savings. The lighting upgrades will save Islanders Bank a combined estimated 50,390 annual kilowatt hours which will translate to significant savings on their monthly utility bills. Electric lighting accounts for approximately 25% of all the energy used in commercial buildings.

“Islanders Bank is committed to doing the right thing for our customers and community,” said Brad Williamson. “We’ve been encouraging our customers toward greater energy efficiency through our Get Connected Loan Program and OPALCO’s Home Snapshot Energy Assessments. This was a perfect opportunity to ‘walk our talk’ – and it will pay dividends in energy savings for years to come.”
